If in a few editions ago we had tested the BlackArmor NAS 400 is large, BlackArmor NAS 110 NAS is much simpler , both in size , and of its features .

Seagate BlackArmor NAS 110 has a very compact size , resembles an ordinary external hard drive . As the name implies , Seagate NAS output is wrapped in black in parts. All the parts using plastic material so the weight is not too heavy , but still feels sturdy .

There is no LCD that contains information about the status of the NAS , there are only two small lights on the front that indicates network activity and disk. Besides , there is also a USB 2.0 port on the front for additional storage media such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive . Looking to the back , there are still a USB 2.0 port besides to a LAN port that has a maximum speed of 1000 Mbps ( gigabit).

Drobo 5N

droboNetwork attached storage (NAS) 5N Drobo Drobo output is a product that is intended for personal use or medium sized businesses. Drobo 5N was performed with a large enough size. The interface is also quite elegant with black bandage on all parts. This is compounded by the row of lights on the front that makes it look attractive. The NAS has a space that can accommodate up to five 3.5-inch hard disk.

To access its hard disk space, you just need to open the front of the Drobo 5N (which does not have a key, just stick around via magnets). To install the hard disk, you just put it into the space provided and press the key on the left side to take it off again.

There is a row of lights near the hard disk space and at the bottom. The lights on the front of the hard disk is used to indicate status and activity of your hard disk, while the lights at the bottom mark the capacity of hard disk space is left.

Canon Image Class MF4890dw

canonMF4890dw imageClass series confirms two additional features are duplex (d) and wireless (w). Duplex function will speed up and save on the amount of paper because it can optimize a piece of paper on both sides (back and forth). This function does not only apply when used for printing but also for scan, copy, and fax. Duplex not only able to function in the paper is placed on the tray, but also on paper placed on the ADF. ADF itself can accommodate up to fifty sheets of paper so as to produce a more efficient document printing and fast.

While the wireless feature could be an option for those who feel a connection cable can be distracting. Two of these connections can be set via the menu on the control panel LCD screen with monochrome text. All settings can be done automatically or manually.

Synology DS713 +

Synology DS713 +Looks like a simple NAS, Synology DS713 + can be expanded up to be able to handle seven pieces of the hard disk. Network attached storage (NAS) Synology DS713 + has a look that could be considered very simple. The shape is quite compact like a small NAS with adequate space for the use of up to two hard disks. Front view is simple, there are no screen indicators. That there is only a power button, the sync button and indicator lights that show activity NAS, network, and hard disk.

There’s also a USB 2.0 port that can be used to access external storage media such as USB flash disk and external hard disk. Then there are two more USB 3.0 ports to transfer data faster. Both USB 3.0 port is placed at the back, next to the eSATA port and two LAN ports. Oh yes, both available LAN port supports gigabit speeds.

Synology DS713 + uses a dual core processor speed of 2.13 GHz with 1 GB of DDR3 memory. As mentioned previously, the NAS is able to accommodate two hard disks with a capacity of a maximum of 4 TB each so you can get a maximum total capacity of up to 8 TB (depending on the RAID configuration is used). The NAS supports RAID 0, RAID 1, and JBOD. You can also configure the hard disk that is functioning as a single volume only.

Introducing the Server: RAID Type and degree

RAID is a way to combine a bunch of hard disks to form a “virtual” drive. The goal is not just to get a bigger room, but also to build data protection with redundancy function / perform duplicate data in the drive. Therefore, if one day one of the drives fails / down, then the data will remain safe and available. In short, RAID provides two main advantages: space and data security. Well, the following article I will talk about RAID and its levels, benefits and drawbacks.

There are two types of RAID implementations.

RAID Software : All configuration is handled by the operating system / software. The advantage of software RAID is very cheap, because they do not need to purchase additional hardware to manage the RAID. But because it is not managed by the hardware itself, the weakness is that he takes the memory resources and additional CPU power of computers. How to Setup RAID Configuration ? Each RAID level has each way to configure.

RAID Hardware : All information on RAID configuration is stored in the interface card in the form of hardware. The advantage is to improve the performance. Because everything is handled by the interface card, so the computer does not not need to use the memory or CPU power to run RAID.

A long time ago, RAID hardware could be said to be an idol. But with a growing time, multi-core CPU and the memory can be obtained with a more affordable price and the quality is qualified. So with faster CPUs, Software RAID was now able to perform as well as hardware RAID performance and even faster in some cases.
